Self-publishing without tears (at a price you can afford…)

Thinking of writing a book?

Or perhaps you’ve already written one, and want to publish it yourself?

If so, we’re here to help. In particular, we’re here to help you produce the book you’ve always wanted, easily and without fuss, at a price you can afford – starting from just £3.00 a copy.

You don’t need any specialist software. You don’t need specialist technical skills. And you don’t have to print hundreds of copies you’ll never have a use for.

It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting your book, or just finishing the final draft – we can help, and we’ll be happy to give you all the advice you need – as several happy authors will tell you.

Just call us for a free consultation on 01449 721599 or drop an email to enquiries@gippingpress.co.uk.

How it works

Our process is very straightforward, and designed to help you every step of the way.

When you get in touch we’ll talk about what you want to do with your book, and how you would it like to be presented.

If you don’t already have a suitable computer file to send us, we’ll advise you on how to prepare one – or help you create it, for an additional charge.

We can also advise you on design and layout (for your cover, for example), or again do the work for you at an additional charge in our fully-equipped design studio.

When you are happy that everything is as you want it, we’ll make a proof copy of your book for your final approval. Once we have that, we will print and finish your final copies.

Getting started

If you’re not sure where to begin we’ve produced a free book that you can download from our website. It’s called A Quick Beginner’s Guide to Self-Publishing.

Download your copy here

As you will see, it tells you exactly what you need to know to get your book ready for publication. It may be a poetry collection, a novel, a memoir, a family history, or a research project of your own. Whatever you’re creating, this little book will give you a step by step guide to turning your ideas into something we can print.

We’re ready, willing and able to help you at every step of the way – but the more you’re able to do yourself, the less we’ll need to charge. And if we can save you money, we will!

What you will need

Ideally you’ll need a word processor (such as Microsoft Word) and a basic knowledge of how to use it. Our downloadable guide will tell you about the settings you need (and you can change them if you’ve already written your book!)

If you want to include pictures you may find it helpful to have Microsoft Publisher as well – but that’s not essential.

If your manuscript is handwritten, it’ll be worth your while to have it professionally typed into a digital format. We’ll be happy to do that for you if you don’t have family or friends who can help.

What you can have

The simplest and cheapest option is an A4- or A5-sized paperback book. We can, of course, produce hardback books if you would prefer that, or you could have just a single hardback copy for your own bookshelf with the rest of the run as paperbacks. And if you want your book to be a particular size, we can help with that as well.

We can produce just a single copy of your book, if that’s what you want – but the more we print, the less each copy will cost. So it’s worth considering who else might be interested in what you’re writing.

Would you like to use colour? Would you like your book case bound, with a wraparound book jacket? Would you like foil-blocked metallic lettering on the cover, or the spine, or both? We’ll be happy to discuss your exact needs, and give you a firm and binding quote for the work.
